CNN’s Jake Tapper asked Donald Trump spokeswoman Katrina Pierson this afternoon if it’s really worth it for Trump to be saying what he’s saying about Khizr Khan.
He pointed to the more respectful way George W. Bush publicly spoke of Cindy Sheehan and asked, “Why not just take the high road? You really can’t win when you’re in a fight against somebody who has such loss and pain.”
Pierson responded, “This isn’t about winning a fight against anyone, this was Mr. Trump defending himself.”
She said the Khans were attacking Trump “personally and viciously,” finding it odd why they would be going after Trump when their son’s death “had nothing to do with Donald Trump.”
Tapper offered forth that it’s because they were showing how they are patriotic Muslims who wanted to take a stand (given how Trump supports a Muslim ban).
