James Clapper Fires Back at ‘Incoherent Mouthpiece’ Giuliani For ‘Deliberate Distortion’ of Spy Remarks
Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper had a near run-in with Rudy Giuliani just a few days ago, and appeared on CNN today to fire back at the New York mayor-turned-Trump attorney.
Clapper argued that Giuliani and President Trump keep on “deliberately misrepresenting” his recent remarks regarding whether or not the FBI had a spy on Trump’s 2016 campaign. He spelled out the difference between the FBI using informants and spies, pounding away at Giuliani’s “deliberate distortion” and reference to the Russia investigation as a “lynch mob.”
“I think this sort of characterization is really unfortunate, inappropriate, unfair and, in fact, dishonest,” said Clapper. “But this is part of a larger campaign in which Mr. Giuliani fully acknowledged to undermine the investigation. That’s the whole point here and cast as many aspersions on the investigation and those conducting it as possible.”
Clapper concluded the segment by saying that Giuliani dismantled his legacy as “America’s mayor” in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks.
“I prefer to remember him that way, than the way he’s conducting himself now,” Clapper concluded. “He’s kind of an incoherent mouthpiece for the president.”
