Jane Mayer on Fox News Report: Trump ‘Seemed Somewhat Prepared’ For Megyn Kelly’s Debate Question

The New Yorker‘s Jane Mayer discussed on CNN Tuesday morning a stunning detail from her bombshell report on Fox News: rumors that the network slipped Donald Trump two questions before a Republican primary debate in 2016.

Two insiders at Fox News and two people close to the Trump campaign told Mayer that an eyewitness saw former Fox News head Roger Ailes tip-off Trump to “two key debate questions.”

One of the questions that Trump allegedly knew about ended up being infamous: Megyn Kelly‘s searing question about his treatment of women, two which the candidate quipped that he had only called Rosie O’Donnell a fat pig.

“He seemed somewhat prepared for the Megyn Kelly question actually when you go back and look at the tape, you’ll see he had a really snappy rejoinder,” Mayer told CNN’s Alisyn Camerota. “Maybe he’s just really quick. But he was certainly ready with a one-liner there.”

Mayer noted that in Kelly’s book, Settle for More, she writes that Trump called Fox News before the debate to say he heard she was planning on asking a tough question.

“Megyn Kelly has said she doesn’t think that he was tipped off, but there are people there that claimed that it did happen,” Mayer said.
