Jay Leno sneaked up on Arsenio Hall last night in what appeared to be a genuine surprise for the late night host. It was Leno’s first television appearance since he retired (for the second time) from the Tonight Show on February 6th and he was there to tell Hall that he new syndicated show has been picked up for a second season.
“We’ve known each other for 35 years,” Leno told Hall, “been through a lot together, good, bad.”
“But you’ve always been that big brother for me, giving me too much advice sometimes,” Hall added.
“For some reason, they thought I should be the best person to give you this,” Leno said before pulling out a letter revealing the show had been renewed. “Good luck, my friend!”
Before leaving Leno joked, “Actually, on the second season, I’m going to be hosting, they didn’t tell you that part.”
Last week, the New York Daily News reported that David Letterman has been trying to book Leno on the Late Show as a way to “steal Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show thunder.” It looks like Arsenio Hall beat him to it.
