Jedediah Bila Slams Kanye Critics: ‘There Has Been a Character Assassination Against This Guy’
Though Kanye West has been hit with a wave backlash for last week’s Oval Office visit with President Donald Trump, not everyone in the media feels the rapper deserved the criticism.
Appearing on Fox News’ MediaBuzz Sunday, Jedediah Bila, a former co-host on The View, went as far as calling the reaction a “media meltdown.”
“Whether you like Kanye or not, there has been a character assassination against this guy,” she said. “You don’t have to agree with everything he says, but you do have to defend his right to say it. He just like every other celebrity that has walked into that White House from a former administration has a right to, if he has a platform, to make his voice heard. There’s no reason why he should be described as all those horrible things.”
CNN’s Don Lemon ruffled feathers Thursday during his commentary on the West-Trump meeting, claiming the artist’s deceased mother was “rolling over in her grave.”
Bustle‘s Jessica Tarlov, who works also as a Fox contributor, felt that was uncalled for.
“I certainly think dragging his late mother into it is going too far,” she said. “As for what the African American community feel about this, as a white person I certainly can’t comment on that, but I do understand and sympathize with their frustration when Kanye West uses his important platform to advocate for things like abolishing the 13th Amendment, when he has shown total lack of understanding about the Jim crow South, for instance.”
Tarlov also pointed out that certain of West’s music industry colleagues have rebuked his behavior, upset over his “playing nice as it were with a president they feel does not advocate for African Americans in this country or do anything to benefit them.”
