Jeff Zucker Reportedly Eyeing Exit From Katie — CNN On The Horizon?

Deadline reports that former NBC Universal chief Jeff Zucker is looking to exit his post as executive producer of Katie Couric‘s syndicated talk show Katie.

“I hear talks with potential candidates are under way, and a hire is expected within the next couple of weeks,” Deadline‘s Nellie Andreeva reports.

Following his 2010 departure from NBC, Zucker helped launch the Couric’s show by executive producing. He also owns a significant financial stake in the program.

As we reported last week, the news media chattering class has been talking up Zucker as the likely replacement for Jim Walton‘s soon-to-be-vacant spot as President of CNN Worldwide.

We made the case here that, despite his controversial history in running a television network, Zucker could actually be a great replacement for the outgoing president due to his success with reviving NBC Universal’s cable assets.

However, we also noted that his commitment to Couric’s show could be a roadblock to his becoming the President of CNN Worldwide. The fact that he is reportedly looking to exit Katie could very well signal that CNN or another big job is on the way.
