Yesterday the NY Times broke news that Donald Trump Jr., along with Jared Kushner and Paul Manafort, met with a Russian Lawyer, to which he provided a variety of inconsistent explanations. The story developed further today as the NY Times reported that the Trump Jr. had been promised information detrimental to Hillary Clinton at that meeting, to which the president’s son appeared to confirm in a statement released to the press.
Enter CNN’s Trump-surrogate extraordinaire Jeffrey Lord. His take? Nothing to see here, happens all the time!
Of course Lord is an experienced campaign veteran, and the “bait and switch” technique of offering for getting meetings then presenting other information is not uncommon. Not just in elections but in business meetings in general.
But while the tactic may be common, it’s rather extraordinary to learn that the president’s son engaged in this sort of meeting while a nation’s collective eyebrows seem to get higher over the increasing number of circumstances, forgotten meetings and soft response to Russian interference.
