With Jay Leno’s last week as host of the Tonight Show underway, Jerry Seinfeld decided to use his unique position as mutual friend of Leno and his late night rival David Letterman to put together a video showing how much the two men clearly care about each other.
Using footage from the respective shoots he did with the two men for his web series “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee,” Seinfeld juxtaposed moments in which Leno and Letterman made nearly identical off-the-cuff jokes, reminisced about the first time they each saw Richard Pryor perform and talked about the comedic influence they had on each other.
“They’re intertwined as people,” Seinfeld said of the two hosts in an interview with The New York Times, which published the video on its website Tuesday. “This is my tribute to everything that was good about their relationship. You see it clearly. I don’t really think there is any place else that you can see it as easily — how much they still think of each other, in a nice way.”
