Jimmy Carter: Why Should I Care About ‘Criminal’ Oliver North Criticizing Me?

Former President Jimmy Carter was on CNN Friday night, and Erin Burnett brought up criticisms from the right that he was a weak president and on Russia, President Obama is acting like “Jimmy Carter on steroids.” Burnett specifically brought up Oliver North, and Carter immediately dismissed the criticisms because North was a “criminal.”

Carter said North, who currently works for Fox News, isn’t worth talking about and told Burnett, “I’m kind of sorry to hear you quote him.” The former president explained, “He was a criminal during the Iranian Contra crisis and was convicted of betraying the best interest of our country. And of course he is famous now because he is a constant critic of the Democratic party and the Democrats. But I don’t worry about that.”

Carter has often been compared to Obama by Republicans, most recently when Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal apologized to Carter for no longer befitting the title of “worst president ever.”
