Jimmy Kimmel Celebrates Trump’s Willingness to Serve Time: ‘You Go to Jail and the Country Becomes a Democracy Again!’
Jimmy Kimmel probably didn’t think agreeing with former President Donald Trump was on his 2023 bingo card, but here we are!
During Monday’s episode of ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live, Kimmel covered Trump’s campaign rally in Iowa in which he stated that he’d be willing to violate his new gag order issued by Judge Tanya Chutkan and go to jail, all in the name of saving democracy. Chutkan ruled that Trump’s First Amendment rights did not give him permission to “vilify … public servants who are simply doing their job.” The ruling came after Trump made several threats and disparaging comments about the people prosecuting him as well as potential witnesses in his federal election fraud case.
Kimmel first mocked Trump’s Truth Social account, showing what it would look like if all the threats were redacted, leaving nothing but, “Tomorrow is a big day for … me, … They want to take away my … Banana … !!!”
Then Kimmel turned to Trump’s campaign stop in Iowa, where he said:
But what they don’t understand is that I am willing to go to jail if that’s what it takes for our country to win and become a democracy again.
And Kimmel could not disagree:
We understand that! That actually is the plan: You go to jail and the country becomes a democracy again. I’m glad we’re finally on the same page.
Call it a total misunderstanding of how democracy works or a step in the right direction for the country to unite again, but Jimmy Kimmel agrees with Donald Trump, which makes the news.
