Joan Walsh Rips Trump Supporter Steve Cortes For ‘Demonizing’ FBI/DOJ: They ‘Keep Us Safe’
Joan Walsh pummeled former Trump adviser Steve Cortes on CNN Wednesday night, during a discussion of revelations that controversial FBI agent Peter Strzok actually co-wrote the letter sent to Congress by then-FBI director James Comey announcing the reopening of the Clinton email investigation.
Strzok, who was removed from the Russia investigation after his anti-Trump text messages were discovered, has been a target of Republicans seeking to undermine the credibility of the special probe. That he co-wrote Comey’s letter to Congress — which many claim sealed Hillary Clinton’s fate in the 2016 election — is a counterpoint to accusations that his political bias interfered with his work.
Walsh made that point on CNN Wednesday night, claiming “this does vindicate Strzok to some extent,” and pointing out that while the FBI agent has political opinions, he is still capable “of doing his job.”
Cortes contended that if Strzok didn’t re-open the Clinton email investigation, it “would be practically criminal, it would certainly be evil.”
“Let’s not laud him, let’s not put a halo over his head,” Cortes added.
Then, Cortes claimed that both the FBI and the Justice Department “have been led, for far too long, by incredibly partisan and incredibly corrupted people, quite frankly, from James Comey on down.”
“That’s outrageous that you would say that,” Walsh shot back.
Walsh pointed out that Trump chose Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and FBI Director Christopher Wray, “so these are his people that you are now accusing of anti-Trump bias.”
“You guys are going to really regret this when it is all over Steve, because you are demonizing people who for the most part keep us safe. We have no evidence of any kind of systematic bias in the FBI.”
