The conservatives and liberals on MSNBC’s Morning Joe panel agreed Monday that Donald Trump‘s insistence that Mexican-American judge Gonzalo Curiel could not preside over the Trump University trial because of his heritage was racist.
“Can I just do a poll?” host Mika Bzrezinski asked “Nicole, is that racism?”
“Yes,” former GOP strategist Nicole Wallace responded without hesitating.
“It’s completely racism, it’s completely racist,” host Joe Scarborough butt in.
“Here you have a guy that is from Indiana. From Indiana! I think his family, if I’m not mistaken, had been in the country of America longer than Trump’s grandmother,” he continued.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a conversation about race on MSNBC if Al Sharpton didn’t weigh in. “Oh, it’s absolutely, unequivocally racist,” he agreed.
One panelist who did not weigh in was Bloomberg’s Mark Halperin, who previously opined that Trump’s comments couldn’t be racist because “Mexican is not a race.”
