MSNBC host Joe Scarborough said on Morning Joe Wednesday morning that president-elect Donald Trump would benefit from the low expectations he’d have entering office, compared to the sky-high expections for “Black Jesus” Barack Obama.
“I would rather be low than high,” Scarborough said when discussing Trump’s poll numbers ahead of his presidency. “Absolutely. Any politician wants to.”
“The thing is, Obama came in as Black Jesus,” he continued (as Mika made a face). “I don’t want to come in as Redneck Jesus if I’m a president of the United States. You want to come in… like Ronald Reagan where people underestimate you.”
Scarborough said the anti-Trump media was using the completely wrong strategy by comparing him to Nazis. “The press, you guys are fools,” he said. “If you hate Donald Trump and you want to destroy Donald Trump, you’re all are fools because you’re doing it the wrong way.”
“I’m just saying, they set the bar so low that all he does is go, ‘Oh, there’s a bar. I’ll walk over it,’” he concluded.
