John Boehner’s ‘Optimistic’ About Trump Despite Him Being ‘Barely a Republican’

Former Speaker John Boehner sat down with CNBC’s Scott Wapner today and sounded off on how he’s hoping for the best with President Donald Trump.

Wapner asked whether “candidate Trump” will continue into the White House or if we’ll get a different Trump. Boehner said, “Nobody really knows. Donald Trump is not an ideologue. I said yesterday he barely is a Republican. He could be barely a Democrat as well.”

As for concerns about Trump’s temperament, Boehner assured that Trump “clearly understands” he has a different role to play now.

Wapner pointed out Trump’s still tweeting

Boehner said, “He will still be Donald Trump, but I would expect that we’re going to see a somewhat different Donald Trump as we get closer to the inauguration.”

And with all the uncertainty in the air, Boehner still made it clear that he’s “pretty optimistic” about things.
