John Kerry Calls Out ‘Propaganda Bullhorn’ RT

During a press conference at the State Department on Thursday, Secretary of State John Kerry tore into Russia’s failure to honor the commitments agreed to in Geneva last week which were designed to de-escalate the worsening situation in East Ukraine. During that press conference, Kerry took aim at the state-funded current events network RT, which he called a “propaganda bullhorn.”

Kerry attacked Russian leaders for failing to call on pro-Russian separatists in Ukraine to stand down and evacuate government buildings they occupy. “In fact, the propaganda bullhorn that is the state-sponsored RT program has been deployed to promote – actually, RT network – has been deployed to promote President [Vladimir] Putin’s fantasy about what is playing out on the ground,” Kerry said.

“They almost spend full-time devoted to this effort, to propagandize and distort what is happening, or not happening, in Ukraine,” Kerry continued. “Instead, in plain sight, Russia continues to fund, coordinate, and fuel a heavily armed separatist movement.”

Kerry added that Russian leaders are making the situation worse with their “outrageous claims.” Including that the CIA invented the internet to control other nations or that pro-Russian forces, resembling Russian military officials, are “local activists.”

“That is absurd,” Kerry said.
