John Oliver enjoys the occasional cute video on YouTube, but was particularly distressed to see someone making a strongly-worded Obama attack when Obama had literally nothing to do with the cat (unless it’s involved in the Benghazi cover-up), and lamented how every single part of American life now is being ruined by everyone’s dirty, nasty personal politics.
Take the royal baby for example. From Martin Bashir using it to talk about infant mortality to Fox News wondering what Obamacare is going to mean for His Royal Cuteness, Oliver waned to know how this non-political news story became such a political football.
And speaking of footballs, apparently not even sports is safe from over-the-top political analysis. Fox News attacking Obama over the price of wings and beer, Americans For Tax Reform using a team change to make a point about tax laws. Oliver begged, “Please don’t ruin sports!”
But the point at which Oliver absolutely lost it was when MSNBC’s Chris Hayes talked about a stinky flower in D.C., a fairly non-political story, only to take a shot at Michele Bachmann. Oliver sighed and concluded, “Leave it to cable news to take the smell of rotting flesh and somehow ruin it.”
