Conservative radio host John Ziegler appeared with MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell tonight to discuss his great dismay with how the conservative movement “sold its soul” to build up Donald Trump, as he wrote about in a recent column for Mediaite.
The self-described “card-carrying member of the right wing conspiracy” told O’Donnell he’s learned more and more in the past few years that “this is really a business, it’s not a cause”––a cause that’s more concerned with ratings, traffic, and “their own self-interest” than actual conservative causes.
He specifically name-dropped Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh, saying that latter is “more concerned about not being bored” and so Trump is just “exciting for him” to latch onto.
As for the financial benefits here, Ziegler said the right-wing media “wins no matter what” because “nobody made more money in the Obama administration… than Fox News Channel and Matt Drudge.”
He said it’s sad how few people realize they’re being “scammed” by normally reliably conservative figures.
