Jon Stewart took on conservative pundit Charles Krauthammer on Wednesday night over the state of the Republican party, with Stewart arguing that the GOP is too obsessed with their anti-government agenda they are bringing “chaos” and “lethargy” to the political system, and taking it as a victory for their side.
Krauthammer shot back, “The assumption is a caricature.” He argued that the conservative argument isn’t about government reduction, but about the insolvency of the welfare state. Stewart liked that argument, but lamented how the GOP isn’t presenting it that way.
Stewart explained, “It is presented as progressivism is destroying our nation.” Krauthammer joked no one wants to spend time “praising the other side,” so “it’s a matter of time constraints.”
Stewart brought up Krauthammer’s book and said, “I don’t think this is the audience to read this. Give this to Paul Ryan and Ted Cruz!”
