On Monday night, Jon Stewart tackled the issue of the Pentagon lifting the ban on women in combat roles in the military. Zoning in on the policy change’s opponents, Stewart incredulously discredited their specific arguments about the gender differences.
The new policy is a significant change, so there are bound to be objections, Stewart noted. There are those, of course, who point to physical differences between men and women. Yes, Stewart said, women are small. “They’re tiny!” They’re just so little and delicate.
Perhaps, he suggested, the military could have some type of physical requirements that everyone has to meet. Oh, well, sure they already do. But that doesn’t address the bigger issue one pundit pointed out: “Sex is inevitable.” It’s going to happen, nothing we can do about. Except, Stewart again suggested, perhaps there could be some type of code…
But we digress — to the biggest problem of all. Hygiene. Here, Stewart couldn’t even muster a suggestion. “You’re in a war zone,” he noted. “And you big worry is dying of embarrassment?”
With that, he turned to Samantha Bee, who investigated how exactly women in combat would disrupt the bromance, the “military bro-hesion.” They’re really going to mess with the “guy-namic,” guys. It’s not going to be good.
