Jon Stewart doubted the Democratic party truly knew what they were up against in the budget battle with Republicans. Stewart’s disappointment with Democrats began with President Obama and now continued with the senators who apparently had a secret “big plan” that merely involved labeling the Tea Party as “extreme.”
Stewart laughed at how easily the “extreme” charge was able to be deflected by Republicans and demonstrated how when Republicans use rhetoric to demonize their opponents they not only stick by it, but ratchet it up. Given that the battle over this year’s budget was relatively small compared to the cuts to next year’s budget already suggested by Republican Congressman Paul Ryan, Stewart simulated blowing his brains out rather than having to watch Democrats to try to compete in that debate.
