Stewart To Obama On Fallon Appearance: 'You Don't Have To Do This Sh*t Anymore'
Jon Stewart clearly had little interest in talking about the 2012 presidential race today. And who could blame him, when people are trying to mine asteroids and Neil DeGrasse Tyson is sitting backstage solving a Rubik’s cube? Stewart did, however, finally turn to yesterday’s primary and all it represented– from Newt Gingrich dropping out to President Obama “slow-jamming” the news with Jimmy Fallon.
As the crowd cheered for Gingrich’s exit, Stewart lamented and warned them not to– where would he get his comedy now? He turned to Mitt Romney for a look, who was cleaning the slate for the general election. Stewart didn’t compare his victory speech to a simple to Etch-a-Sketch cleansing, though– this was a full-on desktop computer restart. “The other way to reboot Mitt Romney is to stick an unbent paper clip in his urethra,” Stewart joked, to the disgust of the crowd. He complimented Romney as sounding somewhat energetic and familiar, “the version of Reagan you’d hear in an elevator.”
Meanwhile, President Obama was slow-jamming the news with Jimmy Fallon. “Romney is this year’s Reagan, and Obama is this year’s Clinton!” Stewart noted with awe. Except “Slow Jam the News” is a segment typically hosted with Brian Williams (“and Brian Williams wants my job!” Stewart remarked). Stewart found it bizarre that the President was onto this sort of thing on reelection. “Mr. President, you’re the president, you don’t have to do this shit anymore!” he pleaded, with the caveat that he would love the President to come by the Daily Show whenever he wished.
