Jonathan Gruber: GOP Trying to ‘Confuse People’ About Obamacare
Jonathan Gruber, considered to be the “architect” of Obamacare, got some flak this week for newly discovered video of him saying that the “lack of transparency” and maybe “the stupidity of the American voter” helped get the health care law passed. Conservatives pounced, and Gruber appeared on MSNBC today to admit that remark was inappropriate.
He made another TV appearance today on WGBH in Boston and continued to defend the law. Gruber doubted that the new Republican wave in Congress would be able to gut it that much, and said that the Republican strategy on the Affordable Care Act has been to “confuse people” about what’s in it “so that they don’t understand that the subsidies they’re getting is because of the law.”
He indirectly referenced previous polls finding that Americans like individual portions of Obamacare if you don’t tell them it’s Obamacare.
That all being said, Gruber did admit he’s “learned my lesson” about cameras being everywhere.
