White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders and her father Mike Huckabee sat down for a joint interview on The View this morning, and the co-hosts pressed them both on how they can defend President Trump after everything he’s said.
Joy Behar in particular––who referred to the elder Huckabee as her favorite Republican––brought up the “horrendous” things Trump has said about women.
“Having said that,” she continued, “how can you let your daughter defend him?”
Huckabee responded by noting that Trump has also “empowered a lot of women,” citing his own daughter as an example, as well as other women he’s hired in the White House and private sector.
He dismissed the idea that Trump is a racist too, saying that “if I didn’t have some confidence in his integrity, I would never encourage my daughter to work for him.”
Behar shot back, “He says nicer things about Neo-Nazis than he does about President Obama.”
Huckabee Sanders spoke up as well and said her being in such a prominent position is significant. “And instead of liberals celebrating it,” she added, “they’ve attacked me.”
Jedediah Bila acknowledged that Trump has empowered women, but asked if she has really struggled to defend Trump, given his personality. Huckabee Sanders defended the President and referred to him as “equal-opportunity” in his attacks on others.
