Joy Reid on ‘#PieGate’: ‘When You Spend Every Day Lying to the Press,’ People Don’t Believe You

After Fox News weighed in on “PieGate” this morning, MSNBC’s Joy Reid defended April Ryan and said there’s a point here about Sarah Huckabee Sanders lying to the press.

Ryan questioned the authenticity of the pie Huckabee Sanders said she baked after people questioned the photo she posted, leading to a strange Twitter back-and-forth yesterday that led to the White House Press Secretary offering to bake the White House correspondent a pie.

Reid recapped the back-and-forth this morning before saying this:

“While we at AM Joy cannot verify whether or not Sanders baked that pie, I think the clear moral here is that when you spend every day lying to the press and to the American people on behalf of your boss, the President, after a while people don’t believe you, not even regarding the authenticity of your holiday pie.”

She also defended Ryan against comments made by Diamond & Silk on Fox this morning questioning her journalistic credentials.
