Karl Rove Lashes Out At ABC Panel, Declares GOP Isn’t Headed For The ‘Dust Bin’
Republican strategist Karl Rove shot down suggestions that the GOP is in a downward spiral towards irrelevance during a segment on ABC’s This Week. Rove acknowledged that the Republican Party does have problems but predicted the party will be around for decades to come.
“Let’s be clear, before we assign the Republican Party to the dustbin of history,” Rove said, as he ticked off a flurry of stats that would indicate the strength of the GOP.
Rove noted that a majority of governors are Republican, most state legislators are Republican, the US House is Republican, and the Senate would probably be Republican if they didn’t pick poor candidates to run in 2010 and 2012.
“Let’s not kid ourselves, we’ve got two robust parties. Each have got their own problems. The Republican Party has its problems. The Democratic Party has its problems. We’re likely to see a competitive political environment for decades to come,” he said.
Rove agreed with a clip of Senator Rand Paul talking about immigration reform and noted steps that Republicans are taking to address their demographic problem.
