Katie Couric Might Be Returning to the Today Show

Katie Couric may visit her old Today Show stomping grounds this year as a guest host while Savannah Guthrie goes on maternity leave. NBC sources told the New York Daily News that Couric is being eyed as a possible substitute host, marking a return eight years after leaving the morning show for CBS News.

Couric’s career has touched each of the three big networks (NBC, CBS, ABC), and now she is the global news anchor for Yahoo News. But now, with Guthrie set to go on maternity leave, Couric may return to the show she co-hosted for fifteen long years.

“It makes perfect sense,” an NBC News staffer said. “The viewers loved her and Matt Lauer together. This would be a chance to give them exactly what they want”…

NBC officials cautioned that there have been no official talks with Couric’s camp about the fill-in job and that another fan favorite, Meredith Vieira, has also been suggested as a possibility, along with current “internal talent.”

Couric guest co-hosted Good Morning America back in 2012 on the same day Sarah Palin guest-hosted on The Today Show.
