President Trump agreed on a deal with top Democrats this week, following tons of condemnation of the President from said Democrats.
MSNBC’s Katy Tur––filling in for Chuck Todd on MTP: Daily today––talked with the panel about the friction between the President and his own party.
As Steve Kornacki pointed out, Trump ran more as a disruptor than a Republican, and despite all the criticisms from the right about Trump not being a conservative, “the Republican electorate voted for him anyway.”
Tur added, “Fox News wasn’t even on his side until the very end of the campaign.”
She then made this observation:
“If he sides and goes over and starts working with the Democrats, given all the outrages and controversies and all the times the Democrats have said ‘How dare this man act the way he does’––Charlottesville being the last time that happened, that was only a couple of weeks ago, I know we like to move on with the news––How do the Democrats justify working with him when they’ve gone back and they’ve said the same things that Republicans were saying? How do they not look like hypocrites here?”
On the deal this week, Jonathan Alter said “you can’t be keeping score” when there are many Americans in desperate need of hurricane relief.
