Katy Tur: Michael Cohen ‘Feels Like His Family is Being Put in Jeopardy’ by Trump
Following the news that Michael Cohen‘s congressional hearing will be postponed, MSNBC’s Katy Tur reported that the family of Donald Trump‘s former personal lawyer is afraid for their safety because of the president’s recent rhetoric.
Cohen attorney Lanny Davis said his client is pushing back his testimony in light of threatening comments from Trump and Rudy Giuliani. Since Trump has been going after Cohen’s wife and his father-in-law lately with unspecified criminal allegations, Tur cited a source close to Cohen’s family on Wednesday and said they are concerned for their physical well-being if they attend his congressional session.
“Michael Cohen feels like his family is being put in jeopardy by the President of the United States, that the president is trying to intimidate his testimony,” Tur said. “I’ve been told Michael Cohen’s wife has become so nervous that she’s worried about physically showing up at Capitol Hill for this testimony.”
Tur spoke to MSNBC’s Ken Dilanian about this, and he said Cohen’s concerns were “very reasonable” given the weight and consequences of Trump’s words. Dilanian made this point while noting that Trump is possibly threatening and intimidating a potential witness against him in public view.
“It seems logical that they can make the kind of security arrangements that’ll give Michael Cohen and his family a comfort level that he’ll be safe and secure,” Dilanian said. “If we can’t protect people who testify before Congress, we have real problem in this country.”
