Bless her heart, MSNBC’s Katy Tur is still surprised when President Donald Trump doesn’t seem to know what he’s talking about.

During a discussion with MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle and The Daily Beast’s Gordon Chang, Tur expressed incredulity that Trump would be taken off guard by a political pivot from North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

“I’m surprised every time I hear reporting that the president was surprised that Kim Jong Un would change his tone. It’s almost as if he’s never opened a history book, or nobody’s ever given him the history of what negotiations have been like with the leaders of North Korea,” she said.

“Don’t be surprised, he hasn’t,” Ruhle responded.

“Why have his advisers not sat him down,” Tur asked, “and said, ‘Listen, there’s a very good chance that they could be giving you a good face right now, but they’re going to turn things around next month, be prepared for it’?”

“Because, Katy, they’re on a death march!” Ruhle replied.

“They’re not saying I’m going to have a rational conversation with the president. You’re talking about people that can’t even ask the president to read a report,” she continued. “He will only look at things that have his name in bold letters. They only get ten minutes at a time with him.”

“The sad thing that’s happening with regard to the president negotiating with China is that China has a long-term plan, they know where they want to be as a world superpower in 2025, and in 2050. The United States, you’ve got Steve Mnuchin and Peter Navarro telling each other off – and they’re on the same team – a week ago,” Ruhle added.
