Kellyanne Conway Defends Trump Television Tweets: ‘Should Be Happy’ He’s So ‘Engaged’
CNN’s Brian Stelter welcomed on White House counselor Kellyanne Conway for an interview that was aired on this morning’s broadcast of Reliable Sources. In the wide-ranging and lengthy conversation, the two battled it out over issues such as the White House’s attacks on CNN, the Russia probe and special counsel Robert Mueller, and whether the Trump administration was in crisis.
Towards the end of the segment, Stelter pressed the presidential aide on on POTUS’s tweeting habits, specifically when it comes to his commentary on cable news.
After Stelter brought up stories that President Trump may be looking to try to punish CNN for its coverage of him, Conway responded by noting that issues like that “do not consume his day.” This led Stelter to point out that Trump “tweets a lot about television,” causing Conway to then somewhat contradict the point she had just made.
“So. You should be happy that we have such an engaged — you should be happy that we have such an engaged president,” she stated. It should be noted that some weeks ago the president tweeted that he doesn’t have much time for watching television.
Conway added that the vast majority of what Trump does is not on Twitter, highlighting his meetings with CEOs as an example. She also went on to complain some more about the negative media coverage of Trump, stating that it is unsustainable.
Meanwhile, following the interview, Conway tweeted out her appreciation to Stelter for having her on:
@brianstelter thanks for today/future & for ignoring those fearful of dissent/discussion. They should get used to it – & get some fresh air. https://t.co/ji3w9UsCVa
