Kellyanne Conway told Fox & Friends Monday morning that Trump lawyer John Dowd penned the president’s tweet about Michael Flynn that many have claimed is incriminating.
In response to the bombshell news that President Donald Trump’s fired National Security Adviser Michael Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI, the president tweeted that was actually the reason for his firing in February. But as many legal experts pointed out, that would indicate that Trump knew Flynn had committed a crime when he pressed former FBI director James Comey to end the investigation into Flynn.
After the tweet received blowback, Dowd told a number of news outlets that he had in fact written the tweet — though skeptics found it hard to believe a lawyer could have written something so sloppy, and potentially incriminating. In comments to Axios published Monday morning, Dowd defended the tweet by claiming a president cannot be guilty of obstruction of justice.
In her appearance on Fox & Friends, Kellyanne Conway backed up Dowd’s claim that he penned the tweet, claiming “the lawyers are the ones that understand how to put those tweets together.”
“I was with the president on Saturday all day, frankly, and I know that what he said is correct,” Conway continued. “What he says is that he put it together and sent it to our director of social media.
Conway went on to lament that “we were promised collusion from the [Trump] campaign,” though no evidence has been presented proving her campaign colluded with Russia to interfere in the 2016 election.
