Khizr Khan and his wife Ghazala became topics of national conversation overnight, but this is not the first time they have publicly spoken about their son and his sacrifice.
In 2008, HBO released Section 60: Arlington National Cemetery, a documentary film about visitors to Section 60 of Arlington, where many of those who served in Iraq and Afghanistan are buried.
“Mourners ranging from young widows and family members to fiances and fellow soldiers,” the synopsis reads, “visit Section 60 to try and connect in spiritual and physical ways with the loved ones they’ve lost.”
And today, CNN showed a clip from the film that features none other than Khizr and Ghazala Khan, talking about their son, Captain Humayan Khan.
The clip features the Khans visiting their son’s grave in a remarkably emotional moment. Khizr Khan talks about coming to the United States because of the freedoms the U.S. had to offer.
Ghazala Khan teared up as she read a prayer and said she truly misses her son.
