Khizr Khan: John Kelly Should Not Have ‘Indulged in Defending’ the ‘Behavior of the President’
Khizr Khan, the Gold Star father who famously denounced President Trump during the Democratic National Convention last year, slammed the President this morning for his actions over the past week.
Khan, who has a new memoir coming out called An American Family, told John Dickerson there needs to be “dignity and restraint” when it comes to families like his.
Trump has been in a days-long back-and-forth with Congresswoman Frederica Wilson over what Wilson relayed from his call with the widow of Sgt. La David Johnson. In his public remarks, Chief of Staff John Kelly said that Gold Star families are always deserving of respect.
Khan acknowledged the sacrifices Kelly and his family have made while also criticizing how he “indulged in defending behavior of the president and made the situation even worse.”
He expressed his shock about seeing Kelly “standing next to the President when the President could not have the proper words to condemn the attack on the blessed city of Charlottesville, Virginia by Neo-Nazis.”
Khan also spoke with Dickerson about his book, his story about coming to America, and words of Ronald Reagan‘s that resonated with him.
