Kimmel Goes After Trump White House in Oscar Monologue: We Make Movies ‘To Upset Mike Pence’
During his opening monologue for the Oscars, Jimmy Kimmel took pot shots at both President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence.
In congratulating Jordan Peele for being only the third person in 90 years to have a film nominated for Best Screenplay, Best Director and Best Picture, Kimmel said President Trump called his film Get Out: “The best first three-quarters of a movie this year.” (We’d explain this joke, but that would actually spoil the plot of Get Out.)
Kimmel also shouted out Timothée Chalamet, who is nominated for Best Actor for Call Me By Your Name, and noted that the film didn’t make much money.
“We don’t make movies like Call Me By Your Name for money,” Kimmel said of the film, which is about a romance between two men. “We make them to upset Mike Pence.”
