Oscars host Jimmy Kimmel addressed his Twitter spat with President Donald Trump over the awards show’s ratings on his late night show Tuesday night — cracking a brutal joke in which he compared the president to the protagonist in Best Picture winner The Shape of Water.
Trump took a victory lap over the low-rated Oscars on Twitter, blaming its decline on there not being “Stars anymore – except your President (just kidding, of course)!”
Lowest rated Oscars in HISTORY. Problem is, we don’t have Stars anymore – except your President (just kidding, of course)!

In response, Kimmel laid down the obvious come-back:
Thanks, lowest rated President in HISTORY. https://t.co/E01UgDaZ3T

On his show, Kimmel addressed the back and forth, noting Trump “always has a problem with the Academy Awards,” noting that’s surprising because he thought the president would really enjoy the Best Picture winner.
“If you haven’t seen it, it’s about a monster who has sex with a woman who can’t talk about it,” Kimmel explained. “Basically, it’s like his life story.”
