Kimmel: Whether You Hear ‘Laurel’ or ‘Yanny’, We Can Agree… Nothing Has Ever Mattered Less Than This

On Wednesday night, Jimmy Kimmel had some fun with the national Laurel vs. Yanny debate.

In what could be a sequel to the dispute of what color “the dress” was, an audio clip went viral because some people kept hearing “Laurel” while others heard “Yanny.”

After playing the clip, Kimmel polled his audience by asking what they heard. The vast majority heard “Laurel” while a respectable portion of the crowd heard “Yanny.”

“Somehow, this has forever divided our world,” Kimmel reacted.

Kimmel explained to his audience that when he first heard it on the phone, he himself thought he was “sure” that he was hearing “Yanny.” But in the studio, all he hears is “Laurel.”

“Whether you hear ‘Laurel’ or Yanny,’ there’s one thing I think we can all agree on, there’s nothing that ever mattered less than this,” Kimmel declared. “Right at the bottom.”

He then attempted to find some meaning in this cultural phenomenon.

“It illustrates that what is real isn’t absolute,” Kimmel elaborated. “What we believe to be true depends on who we are, where we are, how we look at it, other individual factors like that. What’s real to one person may not be real to another person.”

Keeping that in mind, Kimmel offered President Trump a rare apology for perhaps underestimating the size of his inaugural crowd.

“Doesn’t it feel good to fight about something stupid again?” Kimmel asked.
