With all the scandals going on in Washington right now, President Obama embarking on a trip to Africa has been met with some outrage. O’Reilly Factor guest-host Laura Ingraham and Republican guest Kate Obenshain found it to be outrageous, while Kirsten Powers dismissed this as a non-scandal, since similar trips were taken under the Bush administration and with everything else going on, “this is the least of our problems.”
Ingraham highlighted how Obama’s poll numbers have been flailing amidst this current wave of Washington scandals. Powers said, “I don’t know how anybody could hold up under this,” to which Obenshain shot back that Obama is “not a victim” of the scandals, but the primary perpetrator.
Ingraham said that Obama going on an expensive trip to Africa isn’t a good image right now. Powers defended Obama, saying that every president has gone to Africa, and when Ingraham challenged the optics of this particular trip, Powers dismissed it and said conservatives have found all of Obama’s trips to be badly-timed. Obenshain challenged Powers and talked about how this bothers Americans “living paycheck to paycheck.” Powers rolled her eyes and responded, “Oh, come on!”
Powers confronted Obenshain over whether she was similarly outraged when Laura Bush went to Africa. Obenshain did not answer, and maintained that Obama’s trip is “a little bit excessive.” Powers concluded, “This is the least of our problems.”
