Kristol: GOP Should Incorporate ‘Healthy’ Parts of Trump Campaign

Weekly Standard editor Bill Kirstol and Representative Tom Cole (R-OK) tried on This Week Sunday morning to find the silver lining in the hate-porridge Donald Trump is making of the 2016 Republican primary, with Cole suggesting Trump made a good foil for GOP candidates, and Kristol arguing that the GOP should incorporate aspects of his message that are working.

“Republicans need to incorporate what is healthy about the Trump message,” Kristol said, “which is an anti-establishment, anti-Washington message, and a genuine concern about illegal immigrants, the fact that some of them are criminals. That’s not a ridiculous thing to say. The way he said it was crude and reprehensible.”

Kristol acknowledge the threat the Trump could run as a third party candidate, and said that would be “Very dangerous.”
