On this weekend’s Saturday Night Live, host and musical guest Lady Gaga did both in her opening monologue, sending up her hit Applause by explaining to the SNL audience that “there are two kinds of applause, the kind you earn or cheap applause, that you get by pandering to the audience, and by saying things like, ‘Give it up for New York.'”
“I am a fan of both,” she told the audience, and proceeded to perform a swingy rendition of Applause to prove it, taking brave lyrical stances in favor of school teachers, New York City firemen, and… subway perverts?
