Lara Trump on Furloughed Workers: ‘It’s a Little Bit of Pain’ But ‘This is So Much Bigger Than Any One Person’

Lara Trump, the president’s daughter-in-law and 2020 campaign adviser, thanked furloughed government workers in an interview for taking on “a little bit of pain” as the battle continues over funding for a border wall.

In an interview Monday with BOLD TV’s Carrie Sheffield, Trump was asked about the hardships 800,000 federal workers are going through now after not receiving pay for over a month because of the government shutdown. Trump said it all comes down to the president’s effort to address immigration, and as for workers who typically live from paycheck to paycheck, she said future generations will appreciate their struggles for the sake of the country.

“Listen, this is it’s not fair to you, and we all get that, but this is so much bigger than any one person,” said Trump. “It is a little bit of pain, but it’s going to be for the future of our country and their children and their grandchildren, and generations after them will thank them for their sacrifice right now.”

The interview continued with Trump accusing Democrats of “playing politics” and saying “this is our one opportunity” to achieve immigration reform. She also insisted that the president is “doing everything he can to resolve this quickly.”

“I would just tell [federal workers] please stay strong,” Trump said. “We appreciate everything that you’re sacrificing. We’re behind you and we’re going to do everything we can.”

Throughout the shutdown, President Donald Trump has claimed that most furloughed government workers are on his side as he continues to fight with Congressional Democrats and blame them for the current situation. As it were, recent polls indicate that Trump’s disapproval rating is at an all time high, that most voters blame him for the shutdown, and that most of the country does not approve of his demand for a border wall.
