Lara Trump Says She’s Encouraged POTUS to Get a Dog ‘For Many Years’ After His Comments at Rally

During his El Paso rally this week, President Donald Trump went on a tangent talking about people saying he should get a dog. “I wouldn’t mind having one, honestly, but I don’t have any time,” he said.

“How would I look walking a dog on the White House lawn?” Trump asked, saying people have told him he should get one but admitting it “feels a little phony.”

After his comments, there was a report from ABC News that Lara Trump––campaign adviser to the president and Eric Trump‘s wife––has been pushing for him to adopt a dog for a while now.

Lara Trump appeared on Fox & Friends Saturday morning and first talked about Andrew McCabe, the president declaring a national emergency, and the 2020 race.

Towards the end of the interview, Pete Hegseth brought up the president’s remarks about a dog and how she’s personally encouraged him to get one. Trump said she’s been “pushing a dog for many years, many, many years, to my father-in-law.”

“I love dogs. I’m a huge animal advocate, rescue advocate, but listen, if somebody doesn’t want a dog, you can’t force it on him. He has had dogs in the past. So he, despite what he says, I think he is a dog person,” she added.
