Larry Wilmore prefaced his State of the Union coverage last night with an admission: “I voted for President Obama because he’s black.” That being said, he really enjoyed the president’s speech.
After playing a clip of President Barack Obama teasing the first manned mission to Mars, Wilmore said, “Man, that’s dreaming big! That sounds like the old Obama, you know, all audacious and hopey.”
When the president gave a smile and wink to Republicans, Wilmore asked, “Doesn’t he realize he just lost an historic election? I mean, both Houses by historic margins, even his own party was deserting him. Doesn’t Obama know he won’t be able to get anything done in his last two years?”
Then it hit him. “Oh, he doesn’t give a fuck!” Gilmore realized. “He doesn’t care what people think anymore.”
Wilmore especially appreciated the “aw snap” moment when Obama ad-libbed the line about winning his last two elections. “Barry’s got his groove back,” the host declared. “This is amazing! He’s got back his ’04 oratory but now with six years of executive experience. This is the guy we’ve been waiting for!”
