Laura Ingraham took aim at CNN Chief White House Correspondent Jim Acosta over recent remarks he made about President Trump‘s ongoing feud with the media.
During an interview with Variety, Acosta feared the “toxic environment” made in-part by the Trump administration’s hostility towards the media and that people across the country “don’t know it’s an act.”
“They don’t have all their faculties in some cases. Their elevator might not hit all floors. My concern is that a journalist is going to be hurt one of these days,” Acosta said.
Several critics, particularly on Fox News, interpreted Acosta’s remark as a swipe at Trump supporters. And Laura Ingraham was no exception.
“He really is echoing the refrain of the elites. ‘They’re dumb. They’re troglodytes. They drive, you know, around in Ford F-150s. They’ve the gun rack on top,'” Ingraham said. “And I wrote a book years ago called Power to the People. It was all about how the elites looked down on the regular working class people in the country. That’s how they lost the last election. That’s how they lost in 2010 and they made fun of the Tea Party. They haven’t learned anything. And Acosta is just a member of that crowd. It doesn’t surprise me at all.”
She went on to call Acosta remarks about Trump supporters “wild.”
“That’s a reporter, that’s not a commentator… He is supposed to be a reporter calling balls and strikes. At least that’s what we are led to believe,” Ingraham continued. “He has been a rabid anti-Trump reporter for CNN, which I think it’s one of the reasons why CNN, again God bless them, have lost so many viewers over the years. There’s no reporters. They’re all opinion makers.”
