Lemon and Granderson Battle Ex-Bush Official on Whether Civil Rights Leaders ‘Agitated’ for Riots

CNN’s Don Lemon has sure found himself in the middle of multiple heated debates over the Ferguson situation. Earlier this morning he battled his colleague Van Jones over the nature of the ongoing protests, and then hours later he and LZ Granderson debated ex-George W. Bush staffer Ron Christie on whether civil rights leaders bear responsibility for the violence that occurred Monday night.

Christie asserted that even though they did not expressly call for riots in response to the non-indictment of Officer Darren Wilson, civil rights leaders like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson should be held accountable for some of the chaos that unfolded.

Granderson suggested this mentality was “racist,” as it assumes black people were the only ones deeply concerned about the facts surrounding the case. Lemon didn’t agree with that point, but told Christie he remembers civil rights leaders, along with Brown’s family, expressly calling for only peaceful actions.
