Underdogs triumph! The late night ratings are in for the February sweeps, and CBS’s David Letterman and ABC’s Nightline are loving the results. Letterman’s Late Show beat archrival Jay Leno‘s Tonight Show among viewers 18-34 for the first time since Leno’s return to late night. (Among total viewers, Leno won)
At ABC, long-running but recently-rebooted Nightline posted its largest total February viewing audience in seven years, and the newscast’s ratings were up four percent from last February. Nightline also did well in head-to-head matchups with the late night comedy shows (hitting number one among viewers 25-54), though the results aren’t completely apples-to-apples as Nightline runs thirty minutes and Leno and Letterman are a full hour.
