Letterman Tries To Goad Brian Williams Into Commenting On Lauer And Leno: ‘If I’m Onto Something, Blink Twice’

NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams is set to appear on CBS’ Late Show tonight and as the preview clip below shows, David Letterman just couldn’t resist asking him about the recent controversies surrounding the Today Show and the Tonight Show.

As Letterman laid out his complex theories about what’s happening at NBC, Williams looked nervous and joked that he hoped he would wake to discover the appearance was “just a dream.” But Letterman pushed on, trying to get Williams to confirm or deny his convoluted conjecture that NBC decided to drum up news about Jimmy Fallon replacing Jay Leno on the Tonight Show in order to distract the media from the larger problems with Matt Lauer at the Today Show.

Knowing he’d never get a straight answer out of loyal NBC anchor Williams, when he was finished, Letterman simply said, “if I’m onto something, blink twice.” You’ll have to watch the the video below, and the Late Show tonight, to find out what happened next.
