Lewandowski Says Trump to Close ACA Repeal Deal Today: ‘My Source is I Know the President’
Corey Lewandowski appeared on Fox & Friends Wednesday morning to offer optimistic words for President Donald Trump and his efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act.
After the second attempt to pass a new GOP health bill through the Senate failed on Monday, Trump plans to charge full steam ahead with a simple “repeal” bill, that would dismantle Obamacare, but not offer a Republican replacement.
Lewandowski opened by informing the Fox & Friends hosts that the “president is a great dealmaker,” and that he is “very, very close on this piece of legislation.”
Though Trump’s former campaign manager conceded that certain Republican senators — he cited Susan Collins and Rand Paul — will not be onboard for the bill, he argued that “you don’t necessarily need them if you get everybody else and you put Mike Pence in the chair and he breaks the tie.”
“I think this bill is going to get done,” a defiant Lewandowski continued, before revealing he believes “the president is probably going to close the deal today.”
“If that’s the case, this bill moves forward,” he said.
Fox News anchor Brian Kilmeade was taken aback by this revelation, letting out a “wow,” and asking Lewandowski “what is your source on that? Is that a gut feeling or or it that source feeling?”
I know is he a great dealmaker,” Lewandowski replied. “I know he’s going to do whatever it takes to get this done.”
A frustrated Ainsley Earhardt then asked Lewandowski why four GOP senators, who voted for a repeal bill two years ago, are now holding reservations about jettisoning Obamacare.
“I mean, the American people — first they were frustrated now they are getting mad. What is happening?”
“Are they closet Democrats these Republicans?” Earhardt charged. “Are they on a mission to make sure that the president doesn’t succeed?”
Lewandowski held that the errant senators would eventually get to a yes, because the repeal bill would address the opioid crisis roiling their states.
