As far as Lindsey Graham is concerned, his presidential rival Rand Paul is weak on foreign policy and national security, so there’s no doubt future debates between the two will be interesting.
But that begs the question: if it comes down to Paul versus Hillary Clinton, who will Graham go with? Well, Graham told ABC News earlier today that if that match-up happened, “when I came out of my coma, I would support Rand Paul.”
He believes Paul would be “devastating” for the party and the country, and so would really, really reluctantly back him.
On CNN this afternoon, Jake Tapper asked why he would back Paul in the first place when “Hillary Clinton and you are much more closely aligned on this issue that is so important to you.”
Graham talked up all the policies he and Paul agree on before admitting the following about Paul vs. Clinton:
“If he did get the nomination, I think she would tear him apart, because his view of foreign policy is one step behind leading from behind, and at the end of the day, the average America sees radical Islam as a threat, much greater than the NSA.”
