MSNBC aired audio from Las Vegas police scanners as authorities responded to the mass shooting at a country music festival that left at least 50 people dead and injured hundreds more.
“I see the shots coming from Mandalay Bay!” one officer can be heard shouting in the recording, referring to the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino where Stephen Paddock, the attacker, was shooting from.
“Multiple casualties, GSW’s [gunshot wounds] in the medical tent!”
“Be advised it is automatic fire. Fully automatic fire from an elevated position, take cover,” another officer said.
And then, one officer says in a hushed tone to a second officer over the radio that he is outside the suspect’s room on the 32nd floor of the hotel.
“I’m on the suspects door. I need everyone in that hallway to be aware of it and get back. We need to pound this and see if we get any type of response from this guy.”
“Copy,” the second officer responded. “All units on the 32nd floor, SWAT has explosive breach, everyone in the hallway needs to move back, all units move back.”
“Breach,” can be heard three times, before the sound of an explosion.
Police said that Paddock was found dead in the hotel room, and believe he shot himself.
