Local Station Breaks Into Programming With Emergency Zombie Apocalypse Alert

A terrifying emergency broadcast shocked local Montana residents on Monday when KRTV’s midday programming was interrupted by a report of “dead bodies” “rising from their graves” in several counties.

“The bodies of the dead are rising from their graves and are attacking the living,” the emergency announcer warned. “Do not attempt to approach or apprehend these bodies, as they are considered extremely dangerous.”

KRTV posted a notice on the internet apologizing for the mistake and blaming a hacker for the erroneous report of a zombie attack.

This message did not originate from KRTV, and there is no emergency.

Our engineers are investigating to determine what happened and if it affected other media outlets.

UPDATE: MyFoxDC reports that the emergency broadcast scared some residents into calling the police:

A call to KRTV was referred to a Montana Television Network executive in Bozeman. Jon Saunders didn’t immediately return a call for comment.

The Great Falls Tribune reports the hoax alert generated at least four calls to police to see if it was true.
